A Study on Golf Player¢¥s Back


Abstract
Many of the Golf players have been suffering from lower back pain that are very important in condition in orthopedic field, and clinical study of it¢¥s physiopathology and kinesiology are also very interesting problems.
The author has analysed in clinically and roentgenogically about 18 cases of the Golf player¢¥s back who has hospitalized or visited to out clinic of Dept. of orthopedic surgery in Woo Sok Hospital, Korea University since last a year from Jan. 1971 to Dec. 1971, and the result of the study is reported in this paper.
1. 17 cases out of 18 were male and only one case was female, which of their average age was 39 years old. The highest incidence between 41~45years of age were 7 cases.
2. All of the Golf players have a duration of golf play in more than several years and the highest percentage of golf play experiences were 61.6% of the patients as 5~10 years of golf play.
3. The most of the predisposing causes were 66.6% those were caused by lifting strain.
4. The persisting duration on back pain were 61.1 % in less than 3 years, 22.2% of 3~5 years, 11.1 % of 5~7 years and 5.6% in more than 7 years.
5. The characteristics of the pain were intermittent ache and presented tenderness on right lumbosacral joint with severe paravertebral muscle spasms. No there any radiating pains and neurological changes.
6. The roentgenological examinations were revealed 83.3% of osteoarthritis in right lumbosacral joint, 55.6% of secondary subluxation of the lumbosacral region, and especially 2 cases of fatigue fracture were noted.
